Description

Original 1937 Etching By Louis Icart: "Girl In Crinoline"

Louis Icart (1888-1950)

Icart is known for his sensational Art Deco etchings of flowy, almost ghost like figures. Differing highly other Deco era artists like Erté, Icart took a more natural, florid approach to his art, giving an effortless look to each piece that makes them feel more personal. This is an original etching from 1937 known as “Girl in Crinoline”, and depicts a young lady poised in front of a Miroir de Venise. This etching is a perfect example of Icart’s transitional work into the newer expressionist style that he more often used later in his career, featuring more color than his prime deco works, as well as a more vivid expression in the eyes and on the face.
